"Presence in Absence"
Through Hanji relief, the artist expresses emotions, memories, and personal narratives shaped by lived experience. The process of layering and repeatedly building up Hanji becomes both a moment of self-reflection and a means of confronting suppressed emotions. Through this practice, the artist explores the relationship between the visible and the invisible, the present and the absent.
Hanji, made from the inner bark of paper mulberry trees, has long been an integral part of Korean life and culture. Though thin and delicate, it gains strength through layering, embodying the coexistence of revelation and concealment. Drawing on these unique qualities of Hanji, the artist reflects on her inner self and captures a journey of emotional healing and restoration through her work.
